The bulk of this collection consists of photographs and printed materials, such as personal correspondence, marriage certificates and deeds. Items of particular interest include: numerous photographs of Jose, Carmen and Jose González, Jr.; the marriage certificate of Jose González y Fernandez and Carmen Yraolo; World War I draft card exempting Jose González from service due to “residential alien” status (Class V); and three personal diaries.

He graduated from Hillsborough High School and Stetson University and served with the United States Army Ordnance Department in World War II. In 1950, he joined the Tampa Wholesale Liquor Company, Inc., remaining with the firm for thirty-four years. Founded in 1902 by Spanish immigrants, the Centro Asturiano mutual aid society was established as a branch of a similarly named organization in Havana, Cuba. The club, which played a vital role in the social, economic and cultural development of Ybor City, Tampa, continues to provide its primarily Spanish, Cuban, and Italian members with social and recreational activities.
